What brings you to therapy?

You may know exactly what is troubling you.

Or you may simply have a sense that something isn’t working anymore.

Perhaps you understand yourself very well but still find yourself repeating the same patterns.

Perhaps you are exhausted from trying to keep everything together.

Perhaps your mind won’t switch off.

Perhaps a part of you wants to change while another part seems to pull you in the opposite direction.

IFS can offer a different way of approaching these difficulties.

Rather than asking, “What’s wrong with me?”, we can begin to ask:

“What is happening inside me?”

and

“What is this part of me trying to do for me?”

Anxiety and overwhelm

Anxiety can take many forms.

A part of you may be constantly anticipating danger. Another may be trying desperately to control things. Another may be exhausted from managing everything.

Rather than fighting your anxiety, we can become curious about it and understand what it is trying to protect you from.

Parenting

Parenting can bring our own parts very much to the surface.

We may have a part that wants to be patient and another that feels overwhelmed, angry or desperately in need of a break.

Sometimes our child’s distress activates our own old experiences and fears.

I have a particular interest in supporting parents to understand their own parts, as well as helping children and young people with their emotional worlds.
